How often should I wash my hair?
(As published in the “What the Pros Know” section of the September 10, 2014 edition of the Lake Stevens Journal.)
You shouldn’t necessarily wash your hair every day. Don’t get this advice confused with not BATHING every day. Do that! For some, washing your hair every day strips the natural oils from your hair that are needed to keep your hair healthy. How often you wash your hair depends on your hair type. Everyone’s hair needs are different. Some who are prone to super oily hair or who have very fine hair could maybe shampoo every other day, where others can go as long as 3 or 4. Don’t be discouraged if you feel like your hair doesn’t adjust to this shampooing schedule right away. It may take a week or two for your hair to get accustomed. If done right, day-old hair tends to style better and look better than freshly washed hair. Start by using a deep cleansing shampoo, such as Pureology’s Purify. This will rid your hair of impurities providing you a clean slate. If you notice your hair getting a little too oily in between shampoos, use a dry shampoo such as Redken’s Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender!
