Curls, Curls, Curls
- Don’t be afraid of what you have ladies. 90 Percent of women with straight hair have been jealous of your hair at some point of their life. And I know it can be annoying at times, especially the rainy days that we’re all so used to here in the northwest. The pros to having curly hair are that whether you wear your hair straight or curly, you will always have body. Also, you’ll never have that oily hair syndrome and therefore won’t have to wash your hair everyday. The cons, of course, are that you have frizz and the “puffy” look almost indefinitely. So I want to give you a few helpful tips on how to avoid stressing about your lovely mane!
If you find yourself in a humid climate, PUT AWAY THE FLAT IRON! Embrace those luscious curls. Put in some serum and curl gels to help tame the ‘fro. We have a product line by Redken specifically for curly hair that is affordable and really works! The best strategy is to use a serum that has silicone directly in the product. After putting the product in your hair, take a curling iron and just curl sporatic pieces which make it look like you curled everything. If you are completely over the whole curl thing, we have a chemical straightener that works wonders. Even though you are using chemicals on your hair, more than likely you will still have to straighten your hair but in half the time. So make sure you’re using a good full ceramic or full titanium flat iron. The “Angels” at Elle Marie Hair Studio all prefer Chi flat irons. Curly hair always tends to be dry so its vulnerable to humid air – it simply wants to suck up moisture. This causes the cuticles to expand, ultimately resulting in the “frizzy” look. The secret to that is to deep condition your hair once a month. Put a leave-in conditioner in your hair following every shampoo, followed by a styling product to close up the cuticle nicely. To avoid the poof, have layers and never blow dry your hair thoroughly. Always leave some moisture in there and don’t forget to comb your hair! Don’t comb with a brush or just your fingers as you want to take advantage of the product you put in there. So be sure to use a comb as it will truly work the product all the way through. With styles, I think the ballerina bands are totally hot and the in trend right now – the messier the better. And everyone loves a messy bun.
Just remember to have fun and love what you have!
