Undressed and Impressed

On September 20, 2009 hundreds of cosmetologists gathered in Bellevue, Washington at the Meydenbauer Convention Center for an educational hair show called Undressed. The entire Elle Marie team was on hand to soak in all of the education being offered. Redken and Pureology, along with a few other companies, had their top educators and artistic directors on hand demonstrating the latest styles and colors sweeping the industry.

A number of classes offered our stylists new and innovative ways to assist our guests in achieving their desired look. One strategy that helps achieve a particular look is to prepare the hair by applying a product before drying, such as a “leave in” conditioner or styling cream. Shannon King of Redken impressed as she applied basic techniques with new textured looks. The inverted bob is out! If you want short, go shorter! Also this coming season will see a lot of texturing and layering in front around the face rather than in the back as has been done in the past.

Redken’s color specialist, Leah, showed different color placements that can change a person’s look from DRAB to FAB-U-LOUS! One technique that really stood out to Ally was the “hot roots” affect. Ally has been coloring her hair dark for years; wanting something new and fashionable without damaging her long locks. Leah showed us how to take our Redken fashion color line and make a subtle change into something dramatic and fresh. Ally applied this technique to herself and loves her new look!

Sarah loved that Leah spoke about fall coming and that it does not necessarily mean that blondes are going away. Just because you’re blonde doesn’t mean you can’t stay blonde. If you love it, then we love it! Colleen, being a blonde herself, loves the idea. Not knowing if she should go dark, Sarah reassured her that blondes are still in. If you do want a change you can always warm it up with a few darker blonde highlights.

Redken Artistic Director David Stanko also gave our girls some really useful information. Whitney and Marissa love the idea of really customizing a highlight or color placement for each and every guest. We as women wear our hair so many ways. David showed some techniques for the color placement for each and every style our guest might want to achieve.

The following day, three of our newest members, Rachel, Tasha and Kristen, went to an extended one-on-one class with David Stanko. This not only was a huge honor but they received some great information on our Redken color line. All three girls are new to Redken and they felt the class provided them a better understanding of how our color line can really benefit them as stylists.

That same day Lorry and I attended a Pureology updo class. Cheri Lynn, the Pureology Artistic Director, focused on how the base of any style is the most important. She showed us the perfect updo done in a hurry that we can pass on to our guests here at Elle Marie Hair Studio. Lorry absolutely loved this idea. Being a mother of three she has very little time for herself and loved having a quick style look so perfect but be so simple.

Our Elle’s Angels are so enthused about these last two days we just can’t wait to show all of you our new and improved techniques!
