Crystal, a dedicated hairstylist at Elle Marie Hair Studio Woodinville, faced such a journey when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her remarkable story is not only a testament to her courage but also a source of inspiration for us all. In this profile, we’ll dive deep into Crystal’s personal insights as she navigated this challenging chapter of her life, highlighting her resilience and the unwavering support from her Elle Marie family.
Crystal’s Hair Adventure: From Stylist to Survivor
As a hairstylist, Crystal’s life revolved around making her clients feel beautiful and confident. Growing up, she knew that her family history meant that chances were high that she’d have to face her own battle with breast cancer, but getting the diagnosis at age 35 was still a shock.
“Getting diagnosed is really scary, and everyone goes through it differently. For me, I had a full blown panic attack in the doctor’s office. Being faced with your own mortality, even when your doctors tell you that you’re curable, is scary. You can’t help but think, ‘but lots of people die from cancer!'”.
The Strength Within: Personal Insights
Crystal’s battle against breast cancer revealed a wellspring of inner strength. She shared, “It’s not just about surviving; it’s about thriving. I had to remind myself that I was more than my diagnosis.” Her words encapsulate the essence of her resilience. Crystal viewed her journey as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
As a hairstylist, losing your hair to chemotherapy can be especially difficult. Crystal, however, had a unique perspective on the experience: “I’ve always wanted to have a bald head, but I knew from a young age that I was probably gonna get breast cancer. So it was on my hair bucket list, and I was gonna save it for when I got breast cancer.” Her remarkable attitude toward her diagnosis was to embrace the changes, including the experience of having a bald head and even thinning hair. She found beauty in the unconventional and was determined to live her life to the fullest.
Throughout her battle, Crystal found inspiration in everyday moments. “I would wake up in the morning and see the sunrise, and it reminded me that every day is a gift,” she said. Her ability to find beauty in the ordinary and to draw strength from it served as a guiding light during her darkest hours.
The Care with Pink Hair Fundraiser: A Beacon of Hope
Crystal’s journey isn’t just about her personal battle with cancer. It also showcased the power of community and support. Elle Marie Hair Studio, where Crystal works, has dedicated it’s yearly Care with Pink Hair fundraiser to supporting Crystal. This fundraiser allows guests to show their support by getting pink tinsel or hair extensions, with all proceeds going toward Crystal’s medical expenses.
Crystal expressed her gratitude, saying, “The salon and my clients have been incredibly supportive. I couldn’t ask for a better community to be a part of during this challenging time.”
